Inclusive recruitment: fairer adverts, selection and onboarding, from first click to first month
Every stage of hiring can widen your talent pool or quietly narrow it. The Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction module gives you inclusive job adverts, fairer selection methods, an onboarding checklist and guidance on AI in recruitment, from the first advert to the first month in the job.

A practical guide to inclusive recruitment, selection and onboarding

Inclusive recruitment means designing every stage of hiring so the best people can find you, apply, show what they can do and settle in, whatever their background. It covers where you advertise, how you write the advert, how you select, how you interview, and how you welcome people once they join.
The Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction module of the JEDI Inclusion Toolkit gives you the guidance, templates and checklists for each stage.
Why do good candidates fall away?
Most organisations want to hire fairly. But barriers build up in the small details: an advert full of jargon, a long list of must-haves, an online form that does not work with a screen reader, or an interview that rewards confidence over ability.
Each barrier removes a few people, and they are rarely the same few. By the shortlist, the field is narrower than it needed to be.
For B Corps, B Lab Standards V2 includes inclusive recruitment among the actions in the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Impact Topic.
What happens when hiring is not inclusive?
You keep hiring people from the same places, with the same backgrounds, and wonder why your workforce data does not change.
Candidates who need adjustments do not ask, or ask and are not supported, and you lose them.
New starters who do not feel welcome in their first weeks leave early, and the cost of hiring starts again.
What does the Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction module help you with?
Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction gives you inclusive job adverts, fairer selection methods and an onboarding checklist. It covers four areas:
↳ Inclusive attraction, job adverts and application process. Where to advertise, how to write and review adverts, and how to screen fairly.
↳ Selection methods and interview formats. How to choose the right method, prepare interviews, offer adjustments and score consistently.
↳ Inclusive onboarding and induction. How to plan a welcome that works for every new starter, with adjustments in place from day one.
↳ AI in recruitment. What to check before using AI tools in hiring.

Why does it work for any employer?
Every employer competes for talent. Inclusive recruitment widens your pool, improves the quality of your decisions and helps new people stay. The module is built on good practice first and works for any organisation, whether you hire a few people a year or hundreds.
The templates slot into your existing process, so you can improve one stage at a time.
How is it built around the B Corp standards?
Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction supports JEDI2.g in the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Impact Topic of B Lab Standards V2.
Your channel map, advert reviews, screening records, scoring grids and onboarding records show how your hiring works in practice. Every module in the toolkit names the criteria it supports and the evidence it produces.
B Lab certifies B Corps. Includability supports the work you supply as evidence.
Where does Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction fit in the toolkit?
The JEDI Inclusion Toolkit follows four steps, in the order that suits you: find out where you stand, decide what to do, do the work, and show what changed. This module sits in the third step, doing the work.
It pairs well with Talent Pooling and Pipelines, which develops the people you already have, and with Inclusive Communications and Accessible Events for accessible adverts and assessment days.
For the full requirements by company size, read our guide to the B Corp JEDI requirements.

Questions people ask
What is inclusive recruitment?
Inclusive recruitment is hiring designed so that the best people can find you, apply, show what they can do and settle in, whatever their background. It covers attraction, adverts, selection, interviews and onboarding.
How do you write an inclusive job advert?
Use plain language, separate the essential requirements from the nice-to-haves, state the salary and flexibility, and explain how to ask for adjustments. The advert review grid helps you check each one.
What are fair selection methods?
Methods that test what the job really needs, applied the same way to every candidate, with adjustments for those who need them. Structured interviews and a consistent scoring grid are a good start.
Is it safe to use AI in recruitment?
AI tools can save time, but they can also repeat the biases in the data they learned from. Check how a tool works, test it for unfair outcomes and keep a person in the decision. The module's AI in recruitment guidance sets out what to check.
Do we need to be a B Corp to use it?
No. The toolkit is built on good practice first and works for any employer. B Corps get the JEDI criteria mapping on top.
Is the JEDI Inclusion Toolkit a certification?
No. Includability does not certify, accredit or verify anything. B Lab certifies B Corps, and the toolkit helps you do the work and gather the evidence.
