JEDI action plan: how to build one with owners, a dashboard and a comms plan
Most inclusion plans fail in the gap between the document and the day job. The Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan module gives you a working action plan with named owners, a dashboard to track progress and a comms plan to keep people informed.

A practical guide to building and running an inclusion action plan

A JEDI action plan sets out what your organisation will do about Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: the actions you have chosen, who owns each one, when it will be done and how you will know it worked. A good plan is a working tool, updated as you go, not a document written once and filed.
The Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan module of the JEDI Inclusion Toolkit gives you a ready-made action plan template, a dashboard and a comms plan to run it.
Why do inclusion plans stall?
Most organisations can write a plan. The hard part is what happens next. Actions without owners drift. Actions without dates never start. And when nobody tracks progress, the plan quietly stops being looked at.
Often the plan was not built from evidence in the first place, so the actions do not match the gaps people actually face.
For B Corps, B Lab Standards V2 asks companies to choose actions under JEDI2 and record them in a plan, with more actions needed as companies grow and recertify.
What happens when the plan lives in a drawer?
People hear about a commitment, then never hear about it again, and trust drops.
Leaders cannot see what has been done, so the plan loses support at board level.
And when it is time to show progress, someone has to rebuild the story from scratch.
What does the Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan module help you with?
Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan gives you a working action plan with owners, a dashboard and a comms plan. It takes you from your baseline data, through choosing and prioritising actions, to tracking them and telling people what has changed.
It is easy to follow, concise and structured, whether you are doing the work or reporting on it to your teams, groups or board.
What do you get?
↳ A guidance and support tool for creating and implementing a JEDI action plan
↳ The JEDI Action Plan Template, covering How to use, Baseline data, Action plan, Dashboard, Comms plan and Lists
↳ A user guide for the template
What will you end up with?
↳ A baseline of where you are starting from
↳ An action plan with a named owner, a deadline and a measure for every action
↳ A dashboard that shows progress at a glance
↳ A comms plan for keeping your people and stakeholders informed
Why does it work for any employer?
Every organisation with inclusion goals needs a way to turn them into action and track it. The module is built on good practice first, so it works for any employer, whether this is your first plan or you are rebuilding an old one.
The template does the tracking for you, so the person running the plan spends their time on the actions, not the spreadsheet.
How is it built around the B Corp standards?
Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan supports JEDI2.1 to JEDI2.6 and JEDI2.n in the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Impact Topic of B Lab Standards V2.
Your baseline, action plan, dashboard and comms plan show what you chose, why you chose it, who owns it and how it is going. Every module in the toolkit names the criteria it supports and the evidence it produces.
B Lab certifies B Corps. Includability supports the work you supply as evidence.
Where does Creating and Implementing a JEDI Action Plan fit in the toolkit?
The JEDI Inclusion Toolkit follows four steps, in the order that suits you: find out where you stand, decide what to do, do the work, and show what changed. This module sits in the second step, deciding what to do, and its dashboard carries you through to the last.
It builds on Making Sense of Your Data and Gathering Worker and Stakeholder Feedback. The actions you choose will often lead you to Inclusive Leadership, Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding and Induction, or Reviewing and Updating Policies With a JEDI Lens.

Questions people ask
What should a JEDI action plan include?
Your starting point, the actions you have chosen and why, a named owner and deadline for each, how you will measure progress, and how you will keep people informed. The template has a sheet for each.
Is there a D&I action plan template?
Yes. The JEDI Action Plan Template works as a diversity and inclusion action plan for any employer, with a baseline, action plan, dashboard and comms plan in one file.
Does the template work in Google Sheets?
Yes. The template is built to work in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice, so you can use whichever your organisation already has.
How do we choose which actions to include?
Start from the evidence: your workforce data and what people have told you. Choose the actions that close the biggest gaps and that you can resource, rather than the easiest ones.
Do we need to be a B Corp to use it?
No. The toolkit is built on good practice first and works for any employer. B Corps get the JEDI criteria mapping on top.
Is the JEDI Inclusion Toolkit a certification?
No. Includability does not certify, accredit or verify anything. B Lab certifies B Corps, and the toolkit helps you do the work and gather the evidence.
